Editorial policy
This page explains what FitnessHats publishes, where every number comes from, and how we keep it right.
Measured, quoted or computed
Every number on the site is one of three things, and the page says which. Measured: taken by us on a hat we have in hand, with the protocol on our how-we-measure page. Quoted: copied exactly from a brand's own website, with a link to the page and the date we read it. Computed: arithmetic on the first two, such as a unit conversion or the US size convention, with the method shown. We do not invent hats, testers, ratings, reviews, quotes or statistics, and we do not estimate a number we could measure.
Size charts
We use only the chart a brand publishes on its own site, never a retailer's copy. Charts are copied without rounding, dated, and re-checked at least every 180 days. When a brand's own numbers contradict each other, we say so and leave that chart out of the calculator rather than guess which number is right.
Verdicts and best lists
A verdict is a written judgment, never a score, made only after at least 3 logged sessions in the hat. There are no scores or stars. A best list is built from measured hats only, needs enough of them to make a real comparison, and says what rule it uses. A hat is never placed on a list because of a commission or a free sample.
First-hand language
We write “we measured”, “we wore” or “we washed” only when the hat's record shows it. Fabric, UPF and cooling claims are labeled as the brand's claims.
Free products
Every hat profile says whether the hat was given to us. If a brand or anyone else gives us one, its profile says who, and it is measured and judged the same way.
Money
The site has no ads and no affiliate links today. If we add affiliate links, every page with one will say so before the first link, and links will go only through a registry we control. Prices come from the brand's own site with the date we checked, and are hidden after 60 days.
Our own designs
The owner of this site is working on hat designs of their own. If any goes on sale, it will appear only in a clearly labeled section, every page that mentions it will disclose that it belongs to the site's owner, and it will be measured with the same protocol and shown with the same spec table as every other hat.
Use of AI tools
We use AI tools to help collect brand size charts, check them against the brand's page and draft page copy. Measurements, wear logs, fit notes and verdicts are never generated: they come from the hat's own measurement and wear records.
Updates and corrections
A page shows an updated date only when its content changed in a way that matters to readers. When a measurement or chart is wrong, we fix it and say what changed.
